Celebrate the Community Foundation’s Exceptional Board Leadership
(WEST CHESTER, PA – June 3, 2020) – The Chester County Community Foundation is proud to announce its week-long Virtual Celebration of Board Leadership. The virtual celebration honors Outgoing Board Chair, Anthony “Tony” Morris, Esq., and welcomes Incoming Board Chair, Michael “Mike” DeHaven, CPA. The Community Foundation also welcomes new board members and thanks those who have completed their board service. The celebration takes place on the Community Foundation’s social media from Wednesday, June 24th to Wednesday, July 1st.
The Community Foundation has lots of exciting content planned throughout the week, including highlighting the essential services Chester County nonprofits are providing during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Community Foundation is featuring video messages from some of the organizations who have received COVID-19 grants and from grant panelists who have directed funds from the COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund. The Community Foundation is also sharing content from John Serock Catering, Galer Estate Vineyard & Winery, and Scott Rowan Photography to build a virtual experience for guests. Guests can enjoy virtual wine tastings, cooking tutorials, photography tips, and more.
As a partner with Buckley Brion McGuire & Morris LLP, Tony works in a variety of practice areas including: wills and trusts, estate planning, and small business matters. Throughout his term as Board Chair, Tony used his professional connections to strengthen and grow legacy philanthropy in Chester County. He helped oversee and execute the Community Foundation’s 25th Anniversary initiatives to INSPIRE, CELEBRATE, & GROW legacy philanthropy in Chester County. Tony was also instrumental in strengthening the Community Foundation’s strategic plan.
Along with serving as the Community Foundation’s Board Chair and Vice Chair, Tony had previously served as president of the Chester County Bar Association, completed a three-year term as a Hearing Committee Member serving on the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of PA, and worked as a member of the PA Bar Association’s House of Delegates. Tony and his wife Betty are active volunteers with the Community Service Planning Council of West Chester, West Chester Area Day Care Center, and Handi-Crafters. They are also the fund advisors for the Nicholas MacElree Memorial Fund, which awards scholarships annually. Tony’s personal and professional contributions to the Community Foundation have significantly impacted the community and the Community Foundation is grateful for his leadership.
The Community Foundation is enthusiastic to welcome Michael DeHaven, CPA as the Incoming Board Chair. The Community Foundation is confident that Mike’s experience and passion for philanthropic giving will lend greatly to his success as Board Chair.
Mike joined the accounting firm Rainer & Co. in 1994 and became a shareholder in 2004. With offices in West Chester and Newtown Square, Rainer & Co. has a longstanding reputation for outstanding professional and community service. Mike is Chair Emeritus of the Chester County Chamber of Business & Industry; and he serves on the board of the Chester County Economic Development Council, Mental Health Partnerships, and West Chester University’s Corporate Advisory Board.
In 2017, the Chester County Community Foundation bestowed its Door Opener Award upon Mike, for opening the door to legacy philanthropy with friends, colleagues and clients. Philanthropy is a family effort for the DeHavens. Mike and his wife Kim volunteer with Handi-Crafters and their three sons – Chris, Colin, and Regan – are all actively involved with community service. The DeHavens also have a fund with the Community Foundation.
“My goal as Board Chair is to connect diverse people who care about philanthropy and giving, to legacy causes that matter,” explains Mike. “I hope to build on the momentum generated by the Community Foundation’s 25th anniversary to inspire legacy philanthropy that provides resources for our community to grow in good, as well as challenging, economic times. I extend sincere thanks to Tony Morris for the hard work, guidance and dedication he brought to the Chester County Community Foundation as Chair over the past two years.
The Community Foundation thanks Kevin Holleran, Esq., Jim McErlane, Esq., and Robert E. Rigg, CIC, CPCU, CLU for their outstanding board service as they transition off. The Community Foundation welcomes Denise Antonelli, Esq., Erik Gudmundson, Mary Holleran, Matt Holliday, Stephanie Pahides Kalogredis, Esq., Donna Urian, CPA, Dave Vermeil, and Kathy Wileczek, CPA as the newest board members.
